South Korea’s leading cryptocurrency exchange, Upbit, recently faced a significant security breach that impacted around 400,000 wallets. The incident involved a fraudulent token, masquerading as the legitimate Aptos (APT) token, deceiving Upbit’s monitoring system. This mix-up led to an “abnormal deposit attempt” during the exchange’s routine APT transaction monitoring. The fraudulent token, known as ClaimAPTGift, was mistakenly identified as genuine by Upbit’s system, resulting in automatic deposits into numerous unsuspecting user accounts. Over 100,000 users found themselves unexpectedly owning these counterfeit tokens. Subsequent investigations revealed that these tokens had no association with the legitimate Aptos Network coin. #Upbit #cryptocurrency #security #fraud #aptos #ClaimAPTGift
